I'm back with a more pragmatic suggestion. The key to safe and
profitable air travel is the provision of an airport infrastructure,
ie flat and clear runways, navigational aids, etc. It therefore
occurs to me that a similar infrastructure on the moon would be of
great benefit to future (follow-on) trips. My suggestion is that
the first flight to the moon should be dedicated to establishing
such an infrastructure. This can be as complex or as simple as you
wish but I suggest that the basic requirements would be to level
off a large area of surface, maybe apply some form of compaction
the ground and install an autonomous Guidance and Navigation system
like the microwave landing systems found in most of the worlds
major airports. Any follow on flights are then made that much easier
to conduct and we have made a significant step to regular commercial
lunar flights (just like 2001, shame about Pan Am Though!). I hope
that this provides a talking point for you folks and look forward
to seeing the results.
Have fun and get them rockets flying!

It seems a given fact that eventually the earth will be absorbed
by the sun and completely destroyed. Noone with any scientific
knowledge will dispute that. Forget about the fact that it may
take about 5 billion years for that to happen. The time happened
a long time ago when we should have started in earnest to learn
about how to colonize other worlds, instead of finding ways to
destroy them. GOOD LUCK and GODSPEED!!!

I downloaded your file form AOL about a month ago, your
lunar mission is possible. The technology is there, Fund-
ing is possibe, goals are obtainable on the flight plan.
The biggest obstucles are the government and Nasa.
Nasa is very sensitive about what they put in the cargo bay
"especialy rather nasty chemical fuels in large tanks."
Second, the government would want to know whats going on
and have "their own recomendations about how to do this"

A real step forward toward the fullness of creation. To be sure,
scientific contributions are necessary but minimal. On the other
end of the spectrum are the spiritual needs of the participants -
especially in view of the proximity to things eternal. Any community
would likely enjoy the input of a minister of religion. As a Roman
Catholic priest, I am willing to serve the needs of all, whatever
their denomination, in the intewrest of rounding out the services
provided to this new celestial community, as well as dealing with
the interaction with the creator and all participants. Awaiting
your response.

The Moon is a great place to be. Except where are we going
to get the hydrogen, nitrogen, and carbon? Let's hope Lunar
Prospector in '97 turns up some lunar ice at the South Pole.
We need to do a lot of homework before we get there. Without
these critical elements, how to we support a significant
base on the moon? And if we use teleoperated rovers or robots,
who is working on them? Where are the commercial markets that
justify the shorter term investment of billions of bucks?
I hear alot of dreaming and not much progress.
If Lunar Prospector does turn up some lunar ice, what does
a mission plan for utilizing it look like?

The Artemis project sounds like a fabulous, ambitious, and timely
endeavor. I currently work on the design of the Admundsen-Scott
South Pole Station Redevelopment Project - which was once thought
of as an anolog to extreme climate design. Now it's turning out
to be an exciting exercise in advanced architecture and engineering.
You can learn mre about the project through NSF (national science
foundation). I'm very interested in the development of a lunar
station funded commercially. I've always believed this is the only
way to really get something done! I am interested in contributing
to the Artemis Project with whatever talents I have. I think at
this point in the game I can help by providing concept design and
art/illustration to help market any products that will be produced
support the Artemis cause. I beleive that items sold to benefit
the project should be limited to expendable commodities that are
consumed rapidly and encourage multiple future sales. (This isn't

time that all of the organizations that are involved in space

I have been a stong supporter of space exploration for the
last 15 years. Any project that supports the commercialization
and private devolopment of space I support. The reason is that it
will open the space frontier to the rest of us, and not strictly
government agencies. I also do support the role of national governments,
and feel that they should continue in space exploration up until private
projects such as Artemis become a reality. At that point, government
space agencies will have become non-essential to space exploration and
colonization and private corparations can run space exploration then.
The sooner this is a reality the better. I am a senior college student
at GAC with majors in political science and history with a strong
interest in space public policy and space law that encourages the
private development of space exploration. Sincerly yours, Eric
King

Aloha, I am a researcher with background in HRD and Cultural

to work for "moon dust", as one of the other guest wrote in, in
any one of my areas of interest or...Just be a maid... I would like
to point out that on the guest book I looked at there are 171
different individuals who signed before me. Out of those 133 are
male, 15 are women, and 16 unidentifiable by their initials. I am
a recently divorced, not by choice, female in my fourties and if
I did not already have a keen interest in this kind of project I
would now. Based on those odds of finding a man with the same
interests I would be a fool... COUNT me in. With this entry the
ratio is 133/16 and I'll take those odds. Seriously, I would go
even if it where all females. In fact you might find a more cohesive
crew if you tried to recruit more women...Miche (say it Miki)

It is so sad to see so many people miss the point. The
Moon SHOULD be our next step. It has the resources we
need and accessibility that earth lacks. However, it is
not an end unto itself. The moon is just the staging area
for orbital power satellites, colonies and factories. Also,
is there a "real" artemis site for people who have a true
notion of whats going on rather than this one filled with the
star trek wannabees. I intend no offense, but there are just
too many references to "other" races on the moon, the human
species dying and other colorful ideas to take very seriously.

Back in the 60's we all knew that this was the direction
humans were headed. If it takes private enterprise to get

down the Saturn V production and funds for Apollo and

I am currently involved in an Extreme Enviroments class for
Architecture. The class was designed by NASA for students at the
University of New Mexico to design a Lunar base that will house 30
people for 2 years. Your current designs are interesting but will not
work in a long term mission due to micrometeoroid collisions and
cosmic/solar radiation degradation. You should think along the lines of
a moduled base buried under at least three meters of regolith(Moon
Dust), that will give you the protection. I like to talk and design so
please contact me if you have any questions or a rebuke for my
comments.

I am interested in the politics of extraterrestial human colonies,
especially as how the political system of a colony answers the questions
of equitable representation, allocation of resources, and matters of
punishment. If you have any comments or know of other people interested
in developments along these lines, contact me. These are questions that
any viable society needs to address. Despite all the tecnological
considerations involved in a extraterrestial human colony, we must also
seek answers to the political system that will be in place.

I remember watching Neil Armstrong step off the Eagle's ladder and
onto the Moon. I expected we'd have a permanent base on the Moon by the
time I was an adult. It never occurred to me that we'd go, gather a few
samples and stop. When I watched the Apollo 13 movie, I almost cried
looking at the '50s and '60s technologies that got us to the Moon
because we wanted to go. Now, we've lost our will, and we're too busy
amusing ourselves to do the hard jobs again. I believe if we do not
reach for the planets within the next two or three generations, we will
never be able to do it; too many resources will be needed just to keep
us alive, and we'll smash those resources fighting over them. If I can
render even a tiny bit help to an effort to give the Moon and planets to
humanity, I'll feel I've made a contribution in my lifetime.

I think you guys should consider joining with the life extension
folks. If we can extend our personal lifespans there is more time for
interesting projects like this. It seems like a natural fit.

Thanks to the efforts of those seriously interested in space
exploration, especially exploring new worlds, such as the Earth's only
natural satellite, the Human Race may live to see life extended beyond
our own beautiful blue world. Mr. Donald Bellunduno - Norwood,

Congratulations on getting this thing started.
I want so badly to believe that an organization like this
may accomplish what government began a generation ago --
and then abandoned. The future of the species is at stake,
and only those who take the long view can possibly reverse
the decline not only of this country or culture, but Homo
sapiens itself. We are a climax population in this biosphere,
but unlike any other species, we possess the potential to
transcend planetary limits.
Good luck and Goddess-speed, from one human being to the rest!
